⚾ When Coaching Feels Off: A Message to Parents from 806 Drive

ree

We’ve been in your shoes.

Not just as coaches, but as parents, standing behind the fence, watching our kids ride the highs and lows of youth sports. And if we’re being honest, there have been times we questioned the coaching. We’ve felt frustrated, confused, even angry — when a talented kid wasn’t playing the way we thought they should, or when feedback didn’t come clearly or consistently. Sometimes, even when everyone means well, things still don’t feel right.

At 806 Drive, we understand that feeling. Because good intentions mixed with poor execution — or worse, poor communication — can still feel like poor coaching. That’s perception, and in youth sports, perception is everything. If a parent doesn’t understand the “why” behind a decision, it can create distance, frustration, or even resentment. That’s not good for the kid, the parent, or the team.

So we decided to do something about it.

“The impediment to action advances action.” – Marcus Aurelius

We believe in taking frustration — even when it's unspoken — and using it to build clarity. We’ve worked hard to create a system of communication at 806 Drive where parents aren’t left guessing and players aren’t left in the dark. That means:

  • Clear expectations from day one

  • Transparent conversations about roles and development

  • Weekly updates when needed — not just when things go wrong

  • An open-door policy that starts with respect and ends in resolution

And maybe most importantly: we own our mistakes. Because this isn’t a program run by perfect people. It’s a team led by coaches and parents who care deeply and are committed to growing every day — just like the kids we coach.

“Remember: upon the conduct of each depends the fate of all.” – Alexander the Great

Leadership isn’t just about calling pitches or running drills. It’s about creating an environment where everyone feels seen, respected, and heard. Where the standard is clear, but the people are still human. Our coaches understand that how we communicate with players and parents determines how well we can move forward together.

That’s why we don’t just ask our kids to be coachable — we ask our coaches to be teachable. We don’t expect blind trust from parents — we aim to earn it through clarity, consistency, and care.

Because at 806 Drive, it’s not just about playing baseball the right way. It’s about doing everything the right way — including how we treat people, how we lead, and how we grow.

So if something feels off — reach out. Let’s talk. Let’s learn. Let’s build the kind of culture where no one feels unheard, and every kid knows the adults in their corner are rowing the same direction.

Want to sit down with a coach? Have feedback, questions, or concerns?📩 We’re here to talk — and we’re here to listen.

Because this team isn’t built around one player, one coach, or one moment. It’s built around all of us — working together, with one goal in mind:Helping our kids grow into better athletes, better teammates, and better people.

That’s the Drive Way.
